Dr Alex Thomson the Industry Engagement Manager at the Climate Change Cluster (C3) and university Deep Sector Lead for Climate at the University of Technology Sydney. Working at the interface of science and industry, she connects researchers, partners, and government to accelerate the development and adoption of microalgal solutions across climate, agriculture, food, and bioproduct sectors.

With a PhD in marine ecology and a background in academic research and teaching, Alex brings deep expertise in algal systems, aquatic environments, and applied biotechnology. Her work has evolved from research into a focus on translation, enabling pathways from discovery through to real-world application and industry uptake.

Alex specialises in building collaborative partnerships, shaping innovation pipelines, and supporting emerging bio-based industries. Through initiatives such as the Deep Green Biotech Hub, she has contributed to new models that bridge science, entrepreneurship, and commercialisation. Her work is focused on enabling scalable, impact-driven solutions and strengthening Australia’s position in the global microalgae landscape.
